It seems less diverse from the outside yes. And it is. However there are some very distinct differences between regions. the Northeast (up to Boston) and the mid atlantic down to Washington DC are very fast paced and in your face. The midwest from around Ohio to the dakotas has a mi of German and Nordic sensibilities. things like hard work and stoicism are important here. the South is all about hospitality and religion, not dissimilar to sothern italy or parts of the middle east. ( I mean that in the best possible terms). the mountain west in places like Montana, Wyoming and Idaho are very independent minded stemming from the cultural sensibilites that arose from settling the old wild west. In far west Texas, New Mexico and Arizona (apart from the snowbirds) you have a very intersting mix of native and latin cultures mixed weirdly with the “standard american” culture. then out on the west coast its kind of weird in socal due to so many different influences and the Pacific northwest from about San Francisco on north you have another culture all its own where sustainiblity and socialism are not seen as bad words.
In some ways we are a melting pot, I go to Cinco De Mayo celebrations in may and Oktoberfest in the fall. we are alsovery multicurtual, I can also visit neighborhoods where very little english is spoken and I live in a mid-sized midwestern city.
